A Minden man was arrested October 24 after officers reportedly found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia during a patrol stop on Whitlock Street, according to police.
An officer was patrolling the 400 block of Whitlock Street around 7:45 PM following complaints about trespassing at a nearby storage building. During the patrol, the officer located two trucks parked in a yard and made contact with two men, one later identified as Richard Cannady, 60.
Police said Cannady consented to a search, during which officers reportedly found a container of methamphetamine in his pants pocket. After being advised of his rights, Cannady denied ownership of the narcotics but admitted the pants were his.
Officers said a search of Cannady’s truck revealed two unused hypodermic needles, a rolled marijuana joint, and a pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. A secondary search of Cannady’s person reportedly uncovered four additional bags of methamphetamine concealed in a cigarette pack in his shirt pocket.
Cannady was taken into custody and booked into Minden Police Department before being transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
He was charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule II (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Schedule I (marijuana). The second man was released at the scene without charges.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
