Karen’s Korner: What are you most thankful for?

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s Korner,

A friend asked me the other day, “Karen, what are you most thankful for?”

I guess during these holidays of which we are in the middle, our thoughts go to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. And we begin to reflect on all that we have in our lives for which we are grateful.

And I have so many things that cross my mind daily that I am truly grateful for.

I am grateful for the simple things in life…A roof over my head, a hot meal, a warm bath, fresh bedding, a good night’s sleep. Those are the little things we often take for granted.

And there are many in our country right now that do not have these basic simple things. Many are homeless, without family, without resources or needs being met. And my mind goes out to them as I think about all those who are not as fortunate.

There are many seniors who will be alone for the holidays, and my thoughts go to them as well. They have outlived their families, or families live far away, or they have lost a spouse, or are suffering an illness. Let us be mindful of them during this time of the year.

A phone call, a card in the mail, a visit with some goodies…

An invitation to a meal or a time to get together…

An invitation to a class, a social event, a club meeting, a Bible study…

An invitation to day programs…senior centers…

Invite them to volunteer with you as you go into the community to help others.

Introduce them to your pet …encourage them to adopt a pet if able…

Being kind and considerate of others is always the right thing to do.

I hope your holidays are very special this year. God Bless You All.
