Hand-knitted blankets were delivered to local medical facilities last week by members of the Anna Pink Ribbon Cancer Support Group to provide comfort to patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.
The blankets were delivered Wednesday, December 10, to the Highland Clinic on Homer Road and the Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center on Industrial Drive. Additional blankets were later delivered to the office of Dr. Feagin.
The donations are part of the group’s ongoing efforts to give back to the community, according to member Angie Hadnot. The blankets are intended for patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatments.
The Anna Pink Ribbon Cancer Support Group has been active since 2014 and focuses on supporting individuals affected by breast cancer. The group raises funds annually with the help of community support and uses those efforts to assist patients and families.
“During our annual fundraisers the community supports us so we always give something back to the community, and we are asking anyone who wants to join our group to contact us,” Hadnot said. “We have assisted many people on their journey through this devastating disease. Anyone who has been through breast cancer is a sister for life, and we can encourage, pray and comfort each other.”
Hadnot, a breast cancer survivor, said the group’s mission is rooted in shared experiences and faith.
“For those of us who are survivors, we know, all too well, the impact of this disease personally, but God, family, and friends stood with us, held our hands, walked with us, prayed with and for us, and we are living testimony of the power of prayer and healing,” said Hadnot.
The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 310 East Union Street in Minden. Individuals interested in joining or learning more about the group’s work are encouraged to attend a meeting or make contact through the organization.
