BATON ROUGE, La. — The Old Governor’s Mansion will host “For the Love of the Mansion,” a special edition of the museum’s Free First Sunday, on Sunday, Feb. 1, from 12 to 4 p.m. “For the Love of the Mansion” will showcase a day of culture, music, and movement, offering an exclusive look into the mansion’s archives, a ballroom dancing class in the East Room, and an afternoon cello recital.
This month’s Free First Sunday will feature talented artists, including Walker Fleming, who brings his 12 years of ballroom experience—including five years as the instructor for the LSU ballroom Dance Club—to the mansion. “For the Love of the Mansion” will also host Selin Demirel, an internationally acclaimed cellist who moved to Baton Rouge to earn her master’s degree at LSU. Demirel will end the evening with a performance of Bach’s Cello Suite No. 5 and more.
The Old Governor’s Mansion, along with the Secretary of State’s eight other museums, brings the stories of Louisiana and its people to life through exhibitions and educational programming. Admission to the museum is free, and the museum is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12 to 4 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month.
