At a time when it feels like America is constantly being pulled apart, left versus right, red versus blue, one team versus another, our little town reminded the nation what it truly means to come together.
This past weekend, Minden did what it has done for decades. We rallied, we worked, we gave, and we loved. In the process, our community raised more than $2.7 million for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
That number alone is impressive. What it represents is even more powerful. In an era when politics divide families, social media feeds outrage, and we cannot even agree on a Super Bowl halftime show, Minden united around something bigger than ourselves.
While national conversations focus on polarization, our hometown showed a different path. Republicans and Democrats stood side by side. Business owners, students, retirees, and volunteers all pulled in the same direction. There were no political labels, no arguments over ideology, and no distractions from the mission. There was simply a shared desire to help children and families facing the unimaginable.
If we look back to the Declaration of Independence, one truth stands out. We are all created equal. That principle is not dependent on political party, background, or belief system. It is a reminder that while we may disagree on issues, we are still neighbors and still Americans.
Minden proved once again that unity is possible. We showed that compassion can rise above division and that purpose can bring people together when the cause is worthy. The work done here did not just raise money. It restored faith in what a community can be when it chooses cooperation over conflict.
Each year, people across the country take notice of what happens in Minden. They see a small town accomplish something extraordinary. We know the truth behind it. This is who we are. We show up. We give generously. We put people first.
As we move forward, my hope is that we remember this moment. Not just as a successful fundraiser, but as a reminder of what is possible when we focus on the greater good.
More than $2.7 million was raised for St. Jude. Even more importantly, Minden once again showed the world the power of unity.
And that is something we can all be proud of.
