Anglers across the country will have the opportunity to fish for a cause June 13 during the North American Fishing Challenge, a nationwide tournament that will raise funds for recovery programs serving women and children.
Locally, proceeds from the event will support the Minden Adult & Teen Challenge Family Center, which provides recovery support and care for women and children whose lives have been affected by addiction.
Andy Jenkins, campus pastor and director of the Family Center, said the local effort is designed to help families rebuild their lives after addiction while giving anglers a way to support the program.
“Our organization is participating in the North American Fishing Challenge, a unique national fishing tournament where teams can fish anywhere they choose while raising funds for a cause they care about,” Jenkins said. “Our local effort is raising money to support the women and children in our program at the Minden Adult & Teen Challenge Family Center, helping families rebuild their lives after addiction.”
The tournament differs from traditional fishing events because participants are not limited to a single location. Instead, anglers can fish any lake, river, bayou, stream, or other public waters across the country.
Teams of two anglers will compete for prizes, including the chance to win a fully rigged Lund Rebel XL fishing boat.
Organizers say the format allows fishermen from different communities to take part while supporting causes in their own areas.
“It’s a creative way to bring together people who love fishing while also making a real difference in the lives of families working toward recovery,” Jenkins said.
The North American Fishing Challenge is designed to combine outdoor recreation with charitable fundraising, allowing participants to compete nationally while directing financial support to organizations that provide services in their communities. Those interested in participating or learning more about the tournament can contact Jenkins at the Minden Adult & Teen Challenge Family Center or visit the website for the North American Fishing Challenge at nafishingchallenge.org.
