Martha Benton Rogers was born in Minden on February 10, 1956. She fell asleep in death at her home in Athens on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. She attended Webster High School in Minden as part of the school’s final graduating class of 1974. She was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on October 22, 2011, and faithfully practiced for the rest of her life—finding purpose, community, strength, and comfort in her faith. She retired from Foster Farms in 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Benton and Rozella Miller; four sisters, Betty Grim, Carrie Taylor, Delma Ann Benton, and Marjorie Lett; and one brother, Henry “Drag” Benton.
Her memory is carried by her children, Kenjuan Miller (Shan), Jacobi Britt (J’Toya), and Shemika Britt; her sister, Wanda Miller; a host of nieces and nephews, including Chris Walters, Davien Walters and Galyn Walters; her brothers and sisters in the Kingdom Hall; and lifelong friends.
Martha found joy and peace in tending her garden and sitting on her back porch, where she could watch over her menagerie of animals, including chickens, dogs, rabbits, and mourning doves. She took pride in staying busy and active. Retirement did not suit her for very long. After just a few months, she returned to work, turning her love of plants into a part-time role at Cone’s Farm & Garden Mart, where she delighted in helping others care for their animals and gardens.
Her graveside memorial will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Sheppard Street Cemetery. Following the memorial, the family will visit with guests at the site, in lieu of a repast. Final arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Funeral Homes.
