Local artist Christine Broussard has been selected as a finalist in The People’s Artist, a national competition presented by Johnny Depp that highlights artists from across the country while supporting charitable arts initiatives.
Community members are being encouraged to vote for Broussard in the competition, which organizers say is only open for a limited time. At the time the announcement was shared publicly, supporters had about two days remaining to cast votes, with a limited-time period also offering double-value votes through donations.
Broussard has spent decades contributing to the local arts community and helping shape the region’s creative culture. Supporters said her work and involvement have played an important role in the development of the downtown district and arts scene over the years.
The competition winner will receive a $25,000 prize, a feature in Artforum magazine, and an opportunity to display artwork at The Art of Elysium’s Salon event.
Competition organizers said the fundraiser also supports The Art of Elysium, a nonprofit organization that uses art programs to assist people facing difficult life challenges.
Supporters can cast one free vote daily or contribute through donation-based voting. Voting information is available through the competition website at The People’s Artist competition page.
