Registration open for NLTCC SparkForce Manufacturing Camp

by Amber McDown

Registration is now open for Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College’s 4th Annual SparkForce Manufacturing Camp, a hands-on summer program designed to introduce students to careers in advanced manufacturing and skilled trades.

The camp will be held July 13-16 from 9 AM to 1:30 PM at the NLTCC Minden campus and is open to students ages 12 to 14.

Participants will take part in interactive activities and projects alongside NLTCC instructors, including working with 3D printers, building electrical kits, and participating in CNC machine activities. The program is designed to provide students with firsthand experience using modern manufacturing technology while exploring technical career opportunities.

Registration is $60 per student and includes lunch and a camp T-shirt. Space is limited.

SparkForce, formerly known as Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs, is the charitable foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association. Although the organization recently changed its name, its mission remains focused on inspiring and supporting young people interested in manufacturing careers.

According to the organization, summer manufacturing camps across the United States give middle and high school students exposure to hands-on learning environments, advanced manufacturing facilities, and the skills needed for high-tech careers in the industry. Students participating in camps gain experience creating products, operating machinery under supervision, and learning about career pathways in manufacturing.

The camps also aim to help address workforce shortages in skilled trades by introducing students to manufacturing careers at an early age.
