Steve’s Snaketuary draws packed crowd at Minden library

by Amber McDown

Children packed the quad room at the Minden branch of Webster Parish Libraries on Wednesday, June 17, as Steve’s Snaketuary brought a variety of snakes and other reptiles to Discovery Camp 2026.

The room was filled wall-to-wall with young attendees eager to see the animals up close and learn about their habitats, behaviors, and importance in the natural world. Throughout the program, Steve introduced numerous reptiles while sharing educational information and answering questions from an enthusiastic audience.

The event was part of Discovery Camp, Webster Parish Libraries’ annual summer program that combines reading incentives with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-based activities designed to encourage learning and literacy.

With Discovery Camp entering its final week, several special activities remain on the schedule. Upcoming events at the Minden branch include “The Dinosaur Experience” on June 22 and a Dino Egg Drop Challenge on June 23. Library officials encourage families to contact their local branch for information about events scheduled in their area.

Participants have until June 27 to log their reading progress in Beanstack to qualify for the program’s completion celebration planned for early July.

Webster Parish Libraries also reminded patrons that all branches will be closed June 19-20 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
