The Historic Minden Main Street District has been recognized with the 2026 Main Street Award from the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, an honor that highlights communities using historic preservation, culture, and creativity to strengthen economic opportunities and improve quality of life.
The award was announced as part of the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual Preservation Awards program, which recognizes individuals, organizations, and communities for their contributions to preserving Louisiana’s architectural and cultural heritage.

According to the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, the Main Street Award recognizes a Main Street community that exemplifies the strategic use of creativity, historic preservation, and culture to build a climate for cultural expression, enhance existing assets, strengthen economic opportunity, and represent the quality and character of the area.
Minden Main Street was selected among preservation leaders from across the state honored during the 2026 awards program.
Minden Mayor Nick Cox said the award reflects years of work by community leaders, volunteers, business owners, and supporters dedicated to preserving downtown Minden while encouraging growth and investment.
“This recognition is a proud moment for Minden,” Cox said. “Our downtown is one of our community’s greatest treasures, and this award reflects the dedication of countless people who have worked to preserve its character while creating new opportunities for growth and investment.”
Cox also recognized Minden Main Street Director Sarah Overall and others who have contributed to the district’s development.

“I especially want to recognize Main Street Director Sarah Overall for her leadership and commitment, along with the many directors, board members, volunteers, business owners, and community partners who helped build the foundation for this achievement,” Cox said. “Successes like this are never the result of one person or one year. They are built over time by people who care deeply about Minden and believe in the future of our historic downtown.”
The Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, founded in 1979, advocates for the preservation of Louisiana’s historic places through education, outreach, technical assistance, and advocacy efforts. Award recipients are nominated by the public and selected based on the significance of their contributions, commitment to culture, and the benefits their work provides to Louisiana’s cultural understanding.
Other 2026 Preservation Award recipients include preservationists, architects, organizations, educators, and cultural leaders from communities across Louisiana, including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Crowley, St. Francisville, Donaldsonville, Metairie, and Shreveport.
The awards program also announced the latest additions to Louisiana’s Most Endangered Places list, which identifies historic sites facing significant threats and promotes efforts to preserve them for future generations.
Minden’s recognition comes as local leaders continue efforts to revitalize and preserve the city’s historic downtown district through beautification projects, business development, community events, and historic preservation initiatives aimed at maintaining the character of the city’s central business district while encouraging future investment.
