The Minden All-Stars won two games in pool play on the first day of the Diamond Youth Baseball 9U World Series Thursday in Montgomery, Ala.
Minden started the day with a 4-3 victory over Magnolia, Ark., in three innings in the morning. They defeated Municipal (host Montgomery’s team) 4-3 in four innings in the afternoon.
Pool play games have a 60-minute time limit.
Minden completes pool play in the 12-team tournament Friday against Troy, Ala., at 1 p.m. and Ocean Springs, Miss., at 2:15.
Minden won the 9U state tournament earlier this month in Bossier City.
Members of the 9U team are Nash Leonard, Liam Hurley, Jett Jones, Brooks Lewis, Calvin Pendergrass, Ridge Reno, Noah Minter, Brooks Ingles, Lincoln Gibson, Parker McEachern, Hudson McCain and Easton Williams.
According to stats on the team’s GameChanger site, Lewis went 2-for-2 with an RBI against Magnolia. Hurley had a hit and two RBI.
Reno, McCain and Williams had one hit apiece. Nash Leonard had an RBI.
Lewis, McCain, Williams and McEachern all scored one run.
Reno, Lewis, Ingles and Hurley pitched.
Hurley, Ingles, Jett Jones and Minter all had one hit against Municipal. Jones had two RBI and Reno one.
Hurley, Lewis, Jones and McEachern scored one run apiece.
Lewis and Hurley pitched two innings each. They limited Magnolia to one hit.
