The Minden All-Stars defeated Pleasant View, Tenn., 5-0 in a pool play game on the first day of the Diamond Youth Softball 15U World Series in Laurel, Miss.
Minden begins play in the eight-team double-elimination bracket against host team Laurel-Jones County Friday at 9 a.m.
Minden won the state tournament earlier this month in Metairie.
Team members are Ella Wood, Brayleigh Lewis, Erin Danzy, Lola Huddleston, Loralee Roberts, Kenzie Pamintuan, Mckinley James, Eastyn Paye, Emmaline Harmon and Rhea Waller.
Chase Huddleston and Marcus Harmon are the coaches. Peyton Wood is the bench coach.
According to stats on the team’s GameChanger account, Waller, Harmon, Lewis, Wood, Pate, Huddleston and James had one hit apiece.
Waller had a double. Huddleston had two RBI. Pate and James had one each.
Waller scored two runs. Harmon, Lewis and Danzy all scored one.
Wood pitched the first inning. She struck out three and walked one. Huddleston pitched the final four. She struck out six and walked two.
