An exhibit of NASA space exploration artifacts, photos, history, and memorabilia will open with an special reception at noon on Thursday, August 13, in the Union Museum of History and Art, 211 N. Main Street, Farmerville, LA. Admission is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on display through September 26.
Special guest at the opening event will be NASA public affairs officer Christopher Blair, who has curated the exhibit and will deliver the materials from the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, to the museum in Farmerville.
“Visitors will explore many accomplishments of America’s space program, from the Apollo program through today’s Artemis Moon missions,” says Blair. “Featuring high-quality scale models of launch vehicles, engines, spacecraft, and more, visitors can learn about NASA missions and programs. NASA’s Exhibits Program shares the agency’s endeavors to educate the public and inspire America’s next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers.”

Several events will be held in conjunction with the museum’s NASA exhibit: Sept. 10, 5:30 p.m. “Food in Space; What Will They Eat?” talk by Dr. Joshua Vandenbrink; Sept. 15, NASA representative will address school groups in museum; Sept. 15, 11:45 a.m., NASA representative will speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon and at 5:30 p.m. will speak to the public in the museum; Sept. 17, 5:30 p.m. “Welding in Space,” talk by Dr. Andrew Peters; Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Robotics Day, demos by area school robotics teams.
