After opening the season with losses in two competitive games, the Lakeside Warriors broke into the win column with a 34-0 victory over the North Caddo Titans Friday night at Lakeside.
Freshman running back Malik Thorn had a big night. He scored three rushing touchdowns and gained well over 100 yards on the ground. Thorn has been productive in a three games and has three touchdowns on the season.
The defense also turned in another solid performance. The Warriors recorded their first shutout since a 52-0 victory over Plain Dealing in Week 3 last season.
Sophomore Jace Walker returned an interception for a touchdown in the second half.
The Warriors led 14-0 at the half. Thorn scored on a 3-yard run. Junior quarterback Levi Bogdan scored his first touchdown of the season on a 30-yard run.
Senior James Roberson scored on a 30-yard run and sophomore Jaden Clark went 90 yards for a TD in the second half.
Lakeside travels to DeRidder Friday to take on East Beauregard. The Trojans (2-1) lost to Many 31-6 Friday night. North Caddo fell to 0-2.
Haughton 45, Glenbrook 6: The Apaches fell to the undefeated Class 5A Bucs in Haughton.
Glenbrook, whose three opponents have a combined record of 8-1, fell to 0-3. Haughton improved to 3-0.
Haughton Head Coach Matthew Sewell praised the Apaches’ effort.
“Coach (Greg) Tibbitt does a great job,” he said. “They’re extremely well coached and and they played very hard. I mean, by no means were they intimidated. I was very impressed.”
The Apaches got off to a good start. Ace Rolen intercepted a pass in the end zone on Haughton’s first possession. It was his second end zone interception in as many weeks.
But Glenbrook was forced to punt and Haughton drove for a touchdown.
The Apaches nearly answered. Carson Whitehead sprinted through a big hole up the middle and looked like he was going to score. But Haughton’s Xaveria McDuffy Jr. tackled him at the 1.
An illegal motion penalty moved the ball back to the 6. Glenbrook ultimately settled for a field goal attempt which was blocked.
Haughton drove for its second touchdown with 7:39 left in the first quarter. The Bucs recovered a fumble and scored again. They added two more TDs before the half and led 35-0.
Glenbrook’s touchdown came on a 23-yard pass from Braxton Tibbitt to Darron Hollingsworth in the fourth quarter.
Glenbrook plays its first Class 1A opponent of the season Friday. The Apaches travel to Olla to take on LaSalle. The Tigers (1-2) lost to Buckeye 27-22 Friday night.
St. Frederick 21, North Webster 14: The Knights came close to getting their first victory.
The game was tied at 14 at the half. According to The Ouachita Citizen (hannapub.com), St. Frederick scored what proved to be the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter on a short run.
North Webster’s first touchdown came on a 9-yard run by KeShun Evans in the first quarter. Ja’kayden Jackson caught a short pass from Justin Stewart and went 84 yards for a touchdown to give the Knights a 14-7 lead. But St. Frederick tied it just before the half.
According to The Citizen, the Warriors’ running game and third-down conversions were big factors in the game.
North Webster dropped to 0-3. St. Frederick improved to 2-1.
North Webster hosts Lakeview Friday. The Gators (2-1) defeated Magnolia School of Excellence 46-14 Friday night.
