The first three games of the season were frustrating ones for the North Webster Knights and Head Coach Christopher Wilson.
North Webster lost by six to Minden in Week 1 and seven to St. Frederick in Week 3. Sandwiched in between was a 30-point loss to a very good Green Oaks team that is now 4-0.
So the Knights went into Friday night’s game against Lakeview determined to take care of business.
They did just that. North Webster scored all of its points in the first half in a 42-0 victory over the Gators.
Lakeview came into the game 2-1,but the Gators have struggled in recent years. But the opponent didn’t matter. Getting the W did.
“I think we did what we needed to do,” Wilson said. “Hopefully it’s a morale booster for the program. You know, we’ve had a crazy week.”
North Webster defensive coordinator Jason Martin had an emergency appendectomy Friday morning.
“So we went in tonight without him,” Wilson said. “He watched a live feed and sent his notes in via text.
“We did what we were supposed to do tonight. Of course you feel good to get a win. It’s good for the kids. We knew what we were coming to do.”
North Webster equaled its touchdown total in the first three games in the first half.
The Knights led 28-0 after the first quarter. North Webster reserves got plenty of playing time in the second half.
“We got our starters out of there towards the end of the second quarter,” Wilson said. “And we let them enjoy it. It’s always good to get a homecoming win.”
Jardin Gill had a big night. He caught two touchdown passes from Justin Stewart and returned a kickoff for a TD.
Ja’kayden Jackson, J’Quarion Easter and Keshawn Evans had rushing touchdowns. The defense recorded a safety.
North Webster hosts Cedar Creek Friday. The Cougars (4-0) defeated Rayville 26-14 Friday night.
