High school football: North Webster knocks off Bastrop for second straight win

by Russell Hedges

The North Webster Knights defeated the Bastrop Rams 28-8 in a District 1-3A game Friday night in Bastrop.

North Webster improved to 4-4 and 2-0 in district with its second straight victory. The records include a forfeit over Carroll. The Knights were scheduled to play Carroll in their regular-season finale but the LHSAA canceled the Bulldogs’ season after Week 2 because of a postgame incident.

Bastrop also received a forfeit. The Rams dropped to 4-3 and 1-1.

J’Quarion Easter and JaKayden Jackson scored two touchdowns each.

“It was probably the most complete game we’ve played all year,” North Webster Head Coach Christopher Wilson said.

The Knights struck quickly with a long touchdown run on the game’s second play.

“The defense played lights out,” Wilson said. “They drove down the first drive of the third quarter. We just kind of took the wind out of their sails in the second half. So we played a really good game. I’m really proud of the guys.”

Wilson said one key to the victory was establishing the run game.

“II told them our goal was to get first downs and milk the clock,” he said.

The Knights ate up about 11 minutes on their last drive of the game that ended at the 1.

“We wanted to be efficient, and I think we did a good job of that tonight,” Wilson said.

North Webster visits defending district and non-select Division III state champion Thursday. The Panthers (4-3) lost to Lake Charles College Prep 39-38 Thursday night.
