First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending September 27 decreased from the previous weeks’ total.
Mechelle Broussard, business consultant for Louisiana Workforce Commission, said there was only a slight variation during September for Webster Parish.
“Due to the fact that it was a small variation, I really can’t say that it would be one specific reason,” Broussard said.

The state labor department figures released Friday show statewide initial claims decreased to 1,887 from the previous weeks total of 2,068. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 2,307 claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 1,997 from the previous weeks total of 2,084.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending Sept. 27 decreased to 19,586 compared to 20,053 the previous week.
The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 20,216 from the previous weeks average of 20,685.
