The demolition of the home-side grandstands at Minden High School’s W.W. Williams Stadium will begin Thursday, district officials said.
“They’re going to get in there on Thursday,” Maintenance Supervisor Buster Flowers said. “Once they get in there it’s going to take them about two weeks and they’ll have it ready.”
Flowers said the process shouldn’t take longer than the two-week time frame given by the contractors, but said the any hold-up would be a result of the tedious transfer method of demolition debris.
“They may still have some debris they’re going to be trucking in and out,” Flowers said. “But they’ll have it down and have it to where we can start putting the portable bleachers out.”
The Webster Parish School Board voted Tuesday, June 14, in favor of demolishing the grandstands and rebuilding them in their current location. The total cost of the project is roughly $2.2 million, with about $1.4 million of that to be paid for by FEMA.
In early May, the Webster Parish School Board accepted the bid of Altech Environmental Consulting to handle the mold and asbestos abatement and demolition of the old gymnasium and football grandstands.
The Crimson Tide opens the 2016 season Sept. 2, against the Southwood Cowboys.
