WPSB to talk teacher salaries

by Minden Press-Herald

Unfreezing pay for Webster Parish teachers will top a special meeting of the Webster Parish School Board Thursday.

The board will hear a presentation from Finance Director Crevonne Odom on how the district plans to unfreeze their pay and possibly adopt a new salary schedule.

In Monday’s regular meeting, Superintendent of Schools Johnny Rowland Jr. and Odom planned to give the presentation, but board members John Madden, District 6, and Frankie Mitchell, District 9, objected to it being placed on the agenda. Mitchell wanted to know what changed between May and August to allow a pay raise when they were told just two months ago the district could not afford it. Madden objected saying he wasn’t going to vote on something he was seeing for the first time at the board meeting.

For a about a year and a half, talks between the district and the Webster Association of Educators has been ongoing regarding unfreezing the salary schedule, among other issues, such as retirement and policies.

The board will meet at 6 p.m., at Central Office, located at 1442 Sheppard St.
