Roy F. Boddie went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, Sept. 11, 2107 in Gilmer. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden with the Rev. Jim Phillips and the Rev. Don Woodard officiating. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in Bryceland. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Roy was born March 7, 1931 in Bear Creek, and retired from the oil and gas industry. Roy was an Eagle Scout, part of back-to-back state basketball championships at Bryceland High School and played basketball at Louisiana Tech. He was a volunteer firefighter and past fire chief, baseball coach, and scout master in Rockport, Texas, and an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Roy passionately loved his family and church family at Parkway Baptist Church in Minden.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bettye Boddie, twin sons, Donald and Ronald Boddie, parents, James E. and Mary Boddie, and brothers, Waylon, Elvrie, Ted, James, and Bobby Joe Boddie.
He is survived by his son, Mark D. Boddie and wife Kathryne of Gilmer, Texas, daughters, Tammy D. Hinze and husband Ronnie of Rockport, Texas, and Tanya Canto of Corpus Christi, Texas, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Derek Hinze, Brandon Hinze, Michael Boddie, Robert Boddie, Tillman Frizzell and Steve Frizzell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkway Baptist Church in Minden.
