Charles Edward Lay Rogers, Sr., a native of Minden, LA and resident of Paulina, LA, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at the age of 67. Charlie was a loving and devoted father and husband as well as a supportive brother, cousin, and friend. Always a rock for anyone who needed someone. He touched the hearts and souls of everyone who was lucky enough to be a part of his life. He enjoyed Tai-Chi Chuan, playing the guitar, listening to music, fishing, hunting and target shooting. He had a special love for working on and riding his Harleys. Charlie was a Road Captain and Executive Officer with CVMA 6-4. A member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and National Rifle Association. He served in the Army as an expert Riflemen. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars and a Bronze Star Medal with “V” and 2 oak leaf clusters.
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army Commendation Medal and Purple Heart. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Irene Bilyk Rogers; daughters, Alana Marie Rogers (Taylor Turner), Chara Ann Rogers Lyons (Curt), Brittany Rogers Butler (John), Nicole Koch; sons, Charles E. Rogers, Jr. (Whitney), Jason Koch (Mandy); sisters, Susan Rogers-Garcia (Arthur), Stephanie Cleary; brothers, James Ivy Lay (Annette), Joseph L. Rogers II; brother-in-law, Ezra Carter; and his cousin, who was like a brother to Charlie, Tommy Wren, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Tuggle Lay Rogers Cook and James Ivy Lay, SR and adoptive father, Joseph Leslie Rogers; grandparents, Alice Cosper Tuggle, Ruben Tuggle, Charles Edward Lay, Sr., Florence Lay; sister, Diana Carter. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 11:00am until a memorial service at 1:00 pm.
