RUSTON – Sunday will mark both the home and regular season finale for the Louisiana Tech tennis team, taking on Conference USA foe Southern Miss at 10 a.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
LA Tech (11-11) will look to stay hot as they ride a seven-match winning streak into the league matchup prior to the C-USA Tournament getting underway in Houston on Thursday, April 18.
Since dropping their home opener, the Lady Techsters have also been hot at home as they are winners of their last five at the friendly confines while surrendering just one point.
A lot of the players currently have winning streaks intact as well, starting with senior Sonia Chen and freshman Ilana Tetruashvili who each have won eight straight singles matches. That duo has also teamed up to win six straight doubles matchups.
In singles, freshman Leonie Nutz has won six straight while sophomores Andrea Perez-Lopez and Claudia Oravcova, along with freshman Ana Jover, have each won five in a row. Jover and Oravcova have teamed up to win a team-best seven matches in dubs.
Sunday’s meeting against Southern Miss (12-4) will mark just the second match this spring for LA Tech against a conference opponent, having faced North Texas earlier this spring.
The Golden Eagles had won five straight prior to losing their last two matches at Tulane and at UAB by scores of 4-0 and 4-3, respectively. USM’s only other C-USA foe so far came in a loss to UTSA.
Playing at the top position is Arina Amaning who owns a 6-5 mark. Katia de la Garza owns a team-best 10 dual singles wins, playing primarily at the No. 4 spot.
LA Tech leads 7-2 in the series and has won the last four meetings. This will be the first time the Lady Techsters and Golden Eagles battle on the courts since 2016.
