Many awards and recognitions were given at the monthly Webster Parish School Board meeting on Monday evening.
Before they moved onto the agenda, Superintendent Johnny Rowland and the School Board took the time to recognize Lieric Robinson, a member of the Minden High Football team who rushed for five touchdowns in their big win against Huntington.
“This young man has been with me all four years. He is a very humble young man. He just comes to work every day with an extremely high work ethic, and I’m really proud to have coached him,” said MHS Football Head Coach Spencer Heard.
Martin Coleman, who teaches English 1 & 2 at Lakeside Jr High, was named the School Board’s Employee of the Month. “He takes time to get to know his students and builds positive relationships. He holds students to high expectations and students work hard to achieve them because they don’t want to let him down. Student engagement is at an all-time high in his classroom,” said Dr. Gwile Freeman of Taylor & Sons who presented the award.
Other awards that went out were for Northern Webster Parish, that of Cleanest School which went to North Webster Upper Elementary, Lawn of the Month which went to North Webster Lower Elementary, and Safest School, which went to North Webster Jr. High School.
Cleanest and Safest School for Southern Webster Parish went to Doyline Highschool and Lakeside Highschool won Lawn of the Month.
“In the Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit, Webster Jr High School and their teams won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, they swept the whole thing. What most impressive is, in the schools that they defeated,” said Rowland. He then listed off countless other middle schools who took place in the competition, some being out of state, to emphasize how impressive it was that Webster Jr. High swept the top spots. The sponsor of the team is Alyssa Couples.
Before the end of the meeting, Rowland also gave an update about the release date of school performance scores
“School performance scores and district performance scores will be released statewide to the public. We will have our press release ready for Wednesday. You will read all this in the Minden Press-Herald, and any questions you have, feel free to call me, or any of the supervisor staff,” said Rowland.
He then said that they would have another meeting on Nov. 18, of which the main theme will be the scores that are being released Wednesday.
