Joe “PawPaw” was born November 17, 1930 in Minden, LA and entered into rest on November 23 in Minden, LA. He served his country proudly and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 19. He was retired from Bell South Telephone Company. He was a life time deacon at FBC where he served many roles as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and faithful servant to his Lord. His sweet spirit and his heartfelt hugs endeared him to many. Especially dear to his heart were his many football players that he loved and supported through the years. Known to them as “Papa Joe”, he cooked breakfast every gameday for years, first at Mt. Olive Christian School and then Glenbrook School. His family and friends have many memories of his yelling at officials from the stands. Lots of funny stories there!
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Ward Almond of Minden, son Jerry Almond and wife Joan of Homer and daughter Jill Leppert and husband Mike of Minden.
Grandchildren Craig Almond (Mallory), Megan Speer (Jordan), K’Lanie Gordon (Brett), Callie Ramsey (Caleb), Hunter Leppert (Ashton), and Hutton Leppert (fiancée’ Leslie).
Great grandchildren Brennan and Isla Almond, Allie, Ellie, and Emmie Speer, Ryan and Lane Gordon, and soon to arrive Lane Carter Leppert.
