Margaret was born February 17th, 1933 in Dixie, LA to parents Vida and Cecil Horton of Bossier City. She went home to be with the Lord, Friday May 15th, 2020 in Homer, LA.
After attending Bossier High School, Margaret attended Northwest College of Natchitoches. Margaret was Miss Bossier City of 1952, a member of the D.A.R., loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, and various other organizations. She spent most of her life as a banker and also selling insurance helping individuals of Minden, Shreveport and Claiborne Parish.
Margaret was proceeded in death by her husbands, Reverend Ralyn Parkhill and John McCowen Jr, daughter, Amy McCowen Lietz, parents Vida and Cecil Horton, brother, Raymond Horton, and sister, Carolin Horton McCowen Coon.
Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her children, John McCowen III, Daniel Horton McCowen, wife Lisa, and Margaret “Meg” Elizabeth McCowen. Sister in law, Rita Horton. Grandchildren: Virginia McCowen Klucznik, Kathryn Ratcliff McIntosh, John McCowen IV, Mary Margaret McCowen LeBlanc, Stephen Rance Ratcliff, Michaela Margaret McCowen, Margaret “Maggie” Alayne Lietz, Alana Ann Lietz, many wonderful nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Butler, Abshire, Homer Memorial Hospital staff, Claiborne Manor and staff, and Regional Hospice Care.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Saturday, May 23, 2020, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements will be held privately with her beloved family.
