A man who Minden police narcotic investigators say is no stranger to the illegal drug trade in the area is behind bars following his arrest last week on three outstanding warrants charging him with distribution of marijuana.

Claude H. Yount III, a 49-year-old resident of the 100 block of Yount Road in Minden, is currently being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center, Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper said.

Yount is charged on three warrants for distribution of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) and he also is charged with one count of possession of CDS Sch. I with intent to distribute. Other charges filed include possession of a firearm during commission of a drug felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“Yount was arrested on a traffic stop on three warrants for distribution of marijuana. He was taken to his residence on Yount Road while we obtained a search warrant,” Cropper said.

During a search of the residence, Captains Dan Weaver and Marvin Garrett along with Lt. Chris Cheatham found approximately 3.1 pounds of high-grade marijuana with a street value of $10,000, a handgun, one semi-automatic shotgun and a bolt-action rifle, Cropper said. Officers also reportedly discovered approximately $9,800 in cash.

“This marijuana was from California and was an extremely good quality,” Cropper said.
