There will be an Armed Forces Day celebration held at the Minden Civic Center on May 20. Armed Forces Day falls during Military Appreciation Month, and this event offers an opportunity for the citizens of Webster Parish to show honor and appreciation for the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. military.
“Vietnam veterans are our special guests, but all veterans are invited,” said Jerry Madden. “We will be making note of those Vietnam veterans who did not come home. We had 13 that did not come home, and one that is MIA and is still missing…and it’s been a long time.”
The luncheon, which will be partly provided by Lt. Governor Nungesser and former Senator Ryan Gatti, will be served at 11 AM, and the program will start at noon.
“That day we will also be dedicating the Vietnam Veterans Memorial sign that will be installed on mile marker 40,” said Madden. “The foundation is already there; we’re just waiting for the sign to be delivered from Baton Rouge. And when it is, it’s going to be a glorious day; we’ve waited two years for that sign to go up.”
Madden encourages all veterans to attend and hopes that members of the community will make sure they can get there.
“Please, if you find a veteran that needs a ride, give him or her a ride.”
