The 5th annual Duck Derby Extravaganza will be held in downtown Minden this evening starting at 5 PM.

The first three ducks to finish will be awarded prizes of $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place, and $250 for 3rd place.  Racing 1 duck costs $5, 5 ducks for $20, 12 ducks for $50, and 25 ducks for $100.  There are a limited number of tickets available.

The kids’ area will open at 5 PM, and that is also when ticket sales will start (or you can buy tickets now at https://greatermindenchamber.com/duckderby).

The Children’s Parade will begin at 5:45 (line up at 5:30). Children of all ages are welcome to join. Come dressed in patriotic or duck-themed outfits.

There will be a watermelon seed spitting contest at 6:20 PM and a hula hoop contest at 6:35 PM. Next will be a water balloon toss competition at 6:50 PM and the “celebrity” food eating contest at 7:15 PM. The Duck Derby will begin at 7:35 PM.

After the derby, there will be a dance contest at 8:15 PM and a fireworks show at 9 PM.

Food vendors, including I Don’t Know, A Food Truck; Pork & Fork BBQ; Brick Street Coffee; Kona Ice; and Under Dawgs Sports Grill, will be available to serve you delicious food.

And Lifeshare will have a blood donation bus available throughout the event. Summer is the time that blood banks need donations the most, so if you are willing and able to donate, please do.

During this fun-filled event, the following streets will be closed to vehicle traffic: Main Street between East Union and Pine Street; Pearl Street between Main Street and Broadway; and Broadway Street between Miller Street and East Union.

The Duck Derby is brought to you by the Greater Minden Chamber of Commerce and a number of local sponsors.
