Judge Lane Pittard addresses Doyline School students in commemoration of Constitution Week

In a significant outreach effort tied to Constitution Week, 26th Judicial District Court Judge Lane Pittard engaged 65 enthusiastic 4th and 5th grade students at Doyline School. The event, part of the Judges in the Classroom / Students in the Courtroom initiative, featured a presentation titled “Crime, Consequences, and the Power of Choice” by Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Scott J. Crichton. Accompanying the students was their teacher, Mr. Curt Allen.

Constitution Day, an annual observance held on September 17th, marks the historical formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. This occasion underscores the recognition of citizenship for all individuals born in the U.S. or those who have acquired citizenship through naturalization.

In alignment with Constitution Day and in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), which celebrates Freedom Week from September 18 to September 22, the Judges in the Classroom / Students in the Courtroom initiative encourages judges to engage in discussions about the U.S. Constitution with students. This proactive involvement includes visits to schools and invitations for students to attend Louisiana courtrooms during this period.

This initiative serves as an educational bridge, connecting young minds with the principles that shape the nation’s governance and reinforcing the importance of constitutional awareness in our society.
