The Grambling State University football team, fresh off a 35-20 win over Prairie View A&M, travels to Lorman, Miss. to take on Alcorn State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) West Division clash.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Tigers and Braves are long-time adversaries, with GSU holding a 47-23-3 lead in the overall series. Last year, GSU beat ASU 35-6 at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium.
Grambling State enters Saturday’s contest tied for first place in the SWAC West, with a 2-0 mark in conference and an overall record of 3-2. The Tigers are seeking its fourth consecutive win and it’s first 3-0 SWAC start since 2017.
The Grambling State offense has experienced a revival this season and currently tops the SWAC in multiple categories. The offense, dubbed the “G5 Offense” is No. 1 in scoring offense (33.8), rushing yards (924), total yards (2,039), total touchdowns (21) and yards per game (407.8).
Last weekend, the G-Men rushed for over 200 yards for the third consecutive weekend and starting QB Myles Crawley continued to lead the offense, going 26-of-41 for 241 yards and two touchdowns.
Grambling State’s defense was active against PVAMU, registering a season-high four sacks and forcing an interception. Lewis Matthews continues to be the engine of the G-Men defense. He has a team-high 44 total tackles with 2.5 TFL.
On the other sideline, Alcorn State is hoping to avoid losing its homecoming game. The Braves kept pace in the SWAC, defeating Alabama State 23-20 last week.
Quarterback Aaron Allen earned SWAC Offensive Player of the Week for the Braves after torching the Hornets’ secondary for 370 yards, two touchdowns and an INT completing 32-of-46 passes.
Jarvean Howard leads the ASU ground game with 230 yards and three TDs on 64 carries.
On defense, linebacker Terreance Ellis is the leader with 51 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
