Louisiana Tech’s Isaiah Crawford was named Conference USA Men’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year on Thursday as voted on by the league head coaches.

The fifth-year senior is a two-time All-Conference USA selection, having appeared in 83 career games for the Bulldogs including 66 starts.

After recovering from his second season-ending knee injury, the Fort Worth, Texas native played and started in all 32 games last season for LA Tech. He went on to average a team-leading 13.7 points per game, which ranked ninth in CUSA. He posted 22 double-figure scoring games, including seven 20-point scoring performances while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and a team-best 42.0 percent from three.

The forward also led the Bulldogs in total rebounds (168), rebounds per game (5.3), and total steals with 62, which tied for the sixth most in a single season in program history and tied for the fourth most in CUSA.

Crawford is just 19 points shy of becoming the 45th Bulldog in program history to reach 1,000 career points. He is also on pace to become just the fifth Bulldog in school history to reach 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists, and 100 steals for his career.

LA Tech was picked to finish fourth in the CUSA men’s basketball preseason poll. Liberty and Middle Tennessee tied for first followed by WKU who was picked third.

Crawford and the Bulldogs open the 2023-24 season on Nov. 6 at Colorado State.
