High school basketball: Minden gives Brown first win as boys head coach in season opener

The Minden Crimson Tide gave Jacob Brown his first victory as boys head coach Tuesday night, defeating Ruston 65-52 at Minden.

Cameron Parker hit four 3-pointers in the first half and led Minden with 20 points.

Jaiden Franklin added 12 points. Carmelo Smith and Jekoye Knowles scored nine each.

The game was close early with Minden taking a 16-15 lead into the second quarter. 

Parker sank two 3-pointers and Darnell Morris one as the Tide outscored the Bearkats 18-8 in the second quarter for a 34-23 halftime lead.

Ruston rallied in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 45-42. But Minden puked away with 20 points in the fourth.

Knowles hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points in the quarter. Parker also had a 3 and sank a pair of free throws.

“Very proud of my kids,” Brown said.

Minden plays Arcadia at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the Don Srahl Memorial Tournament at Lakeside.

Ruston won the girls game 48-28 Cindee Wright-Clark’s first game as Minden’s head coach.

Kierra Harrison had nine points and seven rebounds.

Travesti Byrd had five points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Lady Tiders face Haynesville at 3:45 Wednesday in the first round of the Don Stahl tournament.
