High school baseball: Minden’s Rowell pitches perfect game against Lakeside; Glenbrook, Doyline get strong pitching performances in tournament wins

Zander Rowell pitched a perfect game in the Minden Crimson Tide’s 6-0 victory over Lakeside Saturday in the final game of a three-game series at Minden.

Rowell threw 66 pitches. He struck out four and induced 16 groundouts and one flyout to center.

Minden won the series two games to one. 

The game was scoreless through four innings.

Minden scored five in the bottom of the fifth. All five came with two outs. After an error and walk kept the inning alive, Landon Brewer, Brody Bower and Bryson Ranger had consecutive doubles. 

Rowell brought home the final run with a single.

Bower went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ranger went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Brewer went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Minden (7-1) hosts Taylor, Ark., Tuesday at 5 p.m. Lakeside (6-3) visits Logansport Tuesday at 6.

Elsewhere, Glenbrook split games in the Trey Altick Classic hosted by Ouachita Christian and Doyline won two games in the Simsboro tournament.

Glenbrook lost to Dunham 10-0 in five innings then defeated Catholic-Pointe Coupee 7-1.

Doyline defeated Haynesville 10-0 in five innings and Simsboro 6-0.

Glenbrook’s Easton Sanders pitched a complete game against Catholic. He allowed four hits, struck out nine and walked only one.

Sanders also went 3-for-3 with a triple. Jackson Waller went 2-for-3 with a double. Landry Powell had two hits, including a double. Preston Frye also had two hits.

Dawson Day and Darron Hollingsworth had two RBI each.

Waller had a double against Dunham. 

Glenbrook (2-6) begins a three-game series against Haughton Thursday at Glenbrook.

Doyline’s Austin Arbaugh pitched a one-hitter against Haynesville with six strikeouts and one walk.

Zach Normand had a single and two RBI. Jonas Florence had a single and drew two walks.

Noah Spears pitched a two-hitter against Simsboro. He struck out 14 and walked only one.

Spears also went 3-for-4 with a triple. Arbaugh went 2-for-4 with a double.

Doyline (3-3) hosts Homer Monday.
