The Minden Crimson Tide fell to No. 6 seed North Vermilion 6-2 in Game 1 of their non-select Division II quarterfinal series Friday.
Because of heavy rain in the area earlier in the day, the game was moved from the Patriots’ home field in Maurice to Broussard.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at noon. If Minden wins, Game 3 will follow.
Minden (25-11) struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
Jakobe Jackson led off with a single and advanced to second on Landon Brewer’s sacrifice bunt. Brody Bower brought Jackson home with a single and advanced to second on the throw.
Jamall Carey, running for Bower, advanced to third on an error off a grounder by Topher Wilson. He scored on Landyn Huddleston’s groundout to the shortstop.
The Patriots tied it in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a walk and three singles.
North Vermilion (21-12) added three in the fifth with two of those coming on a two-out double by Hunter Denais. The Patriots tacked on one more in the seventh.
North Vermilion’s Isaac Russell pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks.
