Webster Parish Libraries began their summer program, Discovery Camp, last week with a fun and educational Science Week. The event featured a variety of activities designed to engage and inspire young minds.
A highlight of the week was a visit from Devan and her animal friends from Wild World Texas at the Minden Branch. Campers had the chance to meet and learn about a diverse array of animals, including a gentle tortoise, an adventurous coatimundi, a vibrant blue-throated macaw, a playful ferret, an inquisitive porcupine, a slithery snake, a charming prairie dog, and a friendly service dog. The coatimundi particularly delighted the crowd by climbing from one camper’s shoulder to the next, sparking laughter and awe. Meanwhile, the curious porcupine and playful ferret explored the Quad, mingling with campers and creating an exciting, interactive environment.
In addition to the animal encounters, campers enjoyed captivating full-dome presentations from the Houston Museum of Natural Science. These included “Dynamic Earth,” “Starry Night Express,” and “Dawn of the Space Age.”
