The Minden All-Stars captured the Dixie Youth Softball Angels X-Play (10U) state tournament Tuesday in Alexandria.
Minden defeated Monroe 5-4 in dramatic fashion in the championship game of the double-elimination tournament at the Johnny Downs Sports Complex. That came just after Minden dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Monroe, its first loss of the tournament, in the first game of the championship round.
In the second game against Monroe, the score was tied at 4 going into the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and the bases empty, Minden drew a walk and then hit back-to-back singles to win it.
Minden defeated Sabine 12-1, Jena 4-0, West Carroll 5-3 in their first three games. They held off Jena again 7-6 to reach the championship round.
In the first game against Monroe, Minden scored a run in the top of the fifth to tie it at 4. But Monroe scored one in the bottom of the inning to win it.
Members of the state championship team are Willow Still, Sadie Powell, Peyton Wood, Kynlee Garms, Eme Jernigan, Fallyn Hollingsworth, Aniston Igo, Montgomery Ingles, Marian Wimberly, Ellie Kate Perryman, Eastyn Pate and Brooklyn Sunderland.
Minden will represent Louisiana in the World Series in Prince George, Va. The opening ceremony is scheduled for July 26.
