Keep Louisiana Beautiful Calls for Nominations for Everyday Hero Awards

BATON ROUGE, La. – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) has opened nominations for the Everyday Hero Award, recognizing individuals, non-profits, and businesses that are committed to keeping Louisiana litter-free and beautiful. Award recipients will be honored at the Everyday Hero Awards luncheon on Thursday, October 24, at the Crowne Plaza Executive Center in Baton Rouge, coinciding with the annual KLB State Conference.

“There are many people and organizations doing exceptional work in their communities, making strides toward a cleaner Louisiana for all of us,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “The Everyday Hero Award is a great way to recognize these people for their dedication to clean up our Sportsman’s Paradise and for going that extra mile to keep our communities litter-free and beautiful.”

Who Can Be Nominated?

Eligible nominees include non-profits, KLB Affiliate organizations, businesses, professional groups, governmental agencies, civic and community organizations, schools, churches, and individual citizens. Anyone can submit a nomination, and multiple nominations from the same individual are welcome. Nominations must be submitted via an online form available at KeepLouisianaBeautiful.org by August 29, 2024.

Award Categories

  1. Community Improvement Award
  • Recognizes projects or initiatives that align with KLB’s mission, demonstrating innovation, collaboration, and measurable community improvement. Eligible entities include for-profit and non-profit organizations, KLB Affiliates, schools, and civic groups. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Let Louisiana Shine Volunteer Award
  • Presented to a passionate volunteer dedicated to community enhancement efforts, collaborating with organizations to clean up litter, beautify spaces, and improve quality of life. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Leaders Against Litter Award
  • Recognizes public service individuals who support KLB’s mission beyond their duties, inspiring others to achieve a cleaner, greener Louisiana. Eligible individuals include police officers, firefighters, educators, librarians, government employees, and elected officials.
  1. Rocksey’s Young Leadership Award (Grades K-12)
  • Named after KLB’s mascot, Rocksey the Raccoon, this award honors students or student groups in grades K-12 who demonstrate environmental stewardship and leadership in keeping their community clean. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Collegiate Environmental Steward Award
  • Presented to college students or student groups who significantly contribute to campus cleanliness, sustainability, and beautification. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Outstanding Community Affiliate Award
  • Recognizes a KLB Community Affiliate for significant contributions to making their community cleaner and greener, demonstrating strong leadership and collaboration. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Outstanding University Affiliate Award
  • Honors a KLB University Affiliate for impactful initiatives that have led to visible and measurable changes on their campus, promoting waste reduction and beautification. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Clean Biz Leadership Award (Less than 50 Employees)
  • Awarded to small organizations that adopt practices supporting KLB’s mission, such as recycling and litter prevention, and contribute to community improvement through various initiatives. Clean Biz Partnership participation is encouraged but not required. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Clean Biz Leadership Award (More than 50 Employees)
  • Similar to the above, but for larger organizations with more than 50 employees, demonstrating a commitment to environmental practices and community improvement. This award includes a cash prize.
  1. Litter Enforcement Award
    • Recognizes law enforcement officers who actively work to prevent littering, educate the public on its impacts, and enforce laws against littering and illegal dumping. Eligible nominees include police officers, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents, justices of the peace, constables, judges, and code enforcement officers.
