The 2024 4-H University, held from June 18 to 21 at Louisiana State University (LSU), provided an exceptional platform for Junior High and High School 4-H members to showcase their talents and engage in leadership activities. Webster Parish had a notable presence, with five youth delegates selected for leadership positions for the 2024-2025 year.
Webster Parish delegates, chosen after interviews with the board advisory committee, include:
- Luke Butcher, Shooting Sports Ambassador
- Emmersyn Demmon, Shooting Sports Ambassador
- Camryn Nail, Shooting Sports Ambassador
- Cailey Nail, Shooting Sports Ambassador
- Haylon Maddox, Wetlands Ambassador
Madison McGraw, a returning Shooting Sports Ambassador from Webster Parish, was also selected as one of the National Shooting Sports Ambassadors for the state, highlighting her continued excellence and commitment.
The Shooting Sports Ambassadors program allows teens to demonstrate leadership, citizenship, and community service skills through activities promoting the 4-H Shooting Sports Program. The Wetland Ambassadors aim to inspire youth to become leaders in wetland-related issues within their communities by promoting wetlands literacy through field studies, mentorship, service-learning, and public outreach.
4-H University, a competition-based camp, features over 40 competitive categories and a variety of educational tracks, including a fashion show, motivational speeches (with Olympic track star DeeDee Trotter speaking this year), campus exploration, dancing, and networking opportunities. The event is designed to provide youth with numerous opportunities to be involved and develop their leadership skills.
