Minden shooting leaves one injured, suspect in custody

Police officers responded to a shooting in the 500 block of W. R. Reeder Street at approximately 2:30 AM on July 11. Officers arrived to find Russell Buffett, 48, with three gunshot wounds to the mouth.

Buffett was reportedly shot inside his residence by his friend Shannon Shine, 55, following an argument and tussle. Buffett was airlifted to Ochsner LSU Health and is reported to be in stable condition.

Several witnesses were detained at the scene, and investigators arrived to assist. Despite gaining consent to search the residence from the homeowner, investigators were unable to locate the firearm used in the incident.

Through witness interviews, it was determined that Shine shot Buffett multiple times during their altercation. Shine was subsequently arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, with a $350,000 surety bond, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, with a $125,000 surety bond.

The investigation is ongoing.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
