by Minden Press-Herald

Sherb Sentell, local attorney and City Court Judge of Minden, was honored in a retirement ceremony held at the World War II Museum in New Orleans on June 28. The event celebrated his illustrious military career as he retired from the Army Reserve as a General, marking over 35 years of service.

Sentell’s military journey began on active duty as a platoon leader with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he first distinguished himself. After completing Ranger School, he deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm, leading combat operations that earned him his first Bronze Star. He completed three years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and later commanded a logistics unit in Iraq from 2004 to 2005, earning a second Bronze Star.

Throughout his career, Sentell received numerous accolades for his service, including two Legions of Merit for his exceptionally meritorious conduct as a senior officer. His educational achievements include earning a Master’s Degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2013.

Sentell has held command at every echelon from platoon to division, and his diverse assignments have included pivotal roles at U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) under then-Commanding General Lloyd Austin. He also served as Command Inspector General in Houston, Texas, and commanded the 95th Division at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, a drill sergeant unit he counts among his favorite assignments.

In addition to his military and judicial responsibilities, Sentell was the first assistant prosecutor for District Attorney Schuyler Marvin, spending thirteen years prosecuting cases for the State of Louisiana. He continues to practice law at Sentell Law Firm alongside his father in Minden.

Sherb Sentell, who is also celebrating his tenth year as Minden City Court Judge, has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of Davidson College and is a member of the LSU Law School Hall of Fame. He serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors for Bonvenu Bank and is married to Kim Sentell, the director of marketing/community liaison for Webster Parish Libraries.
