A free baseball camp is set to take place on Saturday, July 27, at Fraser Field in Ruston. Local nonprofit 22 Hands-up has purchased a number of baseball gloves to be given out as prizes.

“22 Hands-up is going down, and we’re going to donate some gloves,” said Darrell Hampton of 22 Hands-up. “We’re going to support the kids. It’s all about the kids. We support Wilbert Ellis and HBCU, and they support us.”

The camp instructors include Hall of Famer Wilbert Ellis, Hall of Famer and former Grambling State University (GSU) head baseball coach; Gary Eave, former GSU player and Major League Baseball (MLB) player and Hall of Famer; Ralph Garr, former GSU player, MLB player and Hall of Famer; and Davin Pierre, GSU head baseball coach and 2024 SWAC Champion.

The event will run from 8 AM to 2 PM and is open to boys and girls aged 4 to 15. Registration is scheduled from 8 AM to 9 AM, followed by instruction and teaching sessions from 9 AM to noon. After a lunch break at noon, a closing ceremony will be held from 1 PM to 2 PM. Sessions will cover conditioning tips, connecting and developing relationships, and life skills. A special session titled “Just for Parents” will also be available.

Participants can begin registering for the camp on June 30. For more information, they can contact Mr. Ronnie Lyons at 318-607-7407. All campers will receive a t-shirt.
