3rd Annual ‘Black’ to School Toiletry Drive emphasizes needs for young men

by Amber McDown

The 3rd Annual ‘Black’ to School Toiletry Drive will take place at 3Jays Tax Office on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM. The donation drive aims to support students by providing essential items that can boost their confidence and overall school experience.

The drive highlights the need for specific products for black students, especially young men, including hair gel, lotion, deodorant, brushes and combs, toothbrushes, natural hair products, and sunscreen for melanated skin.

Items and donations for local schools will be collected on August 3 and distributed from August 4 through August 10. The donations will benefit Phillips Elementary, Jones Elementary, Richardson Elementary, Webster Jr. High, Browning Elementary, Brown Upper Elementary, North Webster Junior High, North Webster Upper Elementary, and North Webster Lower Elementary.

“This all started when I was working in the schools. I saw a need for children who look like me, and decided, instead of just talking about it, I can actually do something to help them while also getting my community involved. It makes a huge difference when a child can lean on someone who looks like them, especially in an environment such as school,” said Tayler Banks, event organizer.

For more information, contact Tayler Banks at 318-617-3737 or send donations via Cash App to $taybanks022.
