Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington and Bossier Schools Superintendent Jason Rowland say that a shooting occurred in a parking lot behind the Bossier High School football stadium after a Spirit Night event on Monday evening. A 43-year-old male, Anthony Hughes, had gotten into an altercation with some juveniles during the event, which led to a fight with one of them in the parking lot. The suspect, 32-year old Marcus Kelly, exited his car and shot Hughes one time in the torso while Hughes was engaged in the fight with the juvenile who was a passenger in Kelly’s vehicle. Both parties then jumped into their vehicles and began travelling on Bearkat Drive when Hughes rammed Kelly’s vehicle after it was stopped by BSO deputies.
Bossier Sheriff School Resource Officers responded very quickly to the incident and were able to detain Hughes and Kelly without incident and recover the firearm. Bossier City Police responded to the scene and assisted BSO with securing the crime scene. Bossier City Fire transported both Hughes and Kelly to Ochsner’s LSU Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. BSO Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators arrived and began an investigation into the incident.
After his release from the hospital, Kelly was arrested and transported to the Bossier Maximum-Security Facility where he was booked on warrants for:
• Attempted Second Degree Murder
• Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
• Possession of a Firearm on a School Campus
Kelly’s bond has been set at $305,000.
An arrest warrant for Aggravated Criminal Property Damage is pending for Hughes upon his release from the hospital.
