A Minden man was arrested on drug possession charges following a routine police response to a high-crime area on Carolina Street.
On the evening of October 13, Minden police responded to the 800 block of Carolina Street after receiving reports of a large crowd gathering. This location had been the site of a prior incident on October 6, where shots were fired during a similar crowd situation.
Upon arrival, officers observed 35-year-old Nicholas Jones sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle near the residence. As officers approached, Jones reportedly threw an object from the vehicle into a nearby grassy area before attempting to drive away. Authorities were able to stop Jones and ordered him out of the vehicle.
After Jones denied throwing anything, officers conducted a search of the area and discovered approximately 3.7 grams of marijuana. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a half-broken blue pill in the driver’s door, which tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Jones was arrested without incident and charged with simple possession of marijuana and prohibited acts involving Schedule II drugs. He was booked at the Minden Police Department before being transferred to the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
