An explosion originating from the GOEX black powder manufacturing facility at Camp Minden shook the Minden area early October 30. The blast occurred shortly after 7 AM, startling residents as shockwaves reverberated through the community.
Louisiana National Guard spokesperson LTC Noel Collins confirmed that emergency responders have secured the area, with all personnel accounted for and no reported injuries. Louisiana State Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
“My initial report is that there are no injuries, and all personnel are accounted for,” said Collins.
Col. Carl Thompson, former facility manager at Camp Minden, noted that explosions at GOEX are not uncommon, stating, “Actually, GOEX experiences explosions often – the manufacturing process creates a haze of explosive black powder that is easily ignited by static electricity.”
Authorities are expected to provide additional details as the investigation continues.
