The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Rho Omega Chapter held its annual Fashionetta event on November 26 at the Minden Civic Center. The fundraiser supports scholarships for young people and monetary donations to various organizations.
“Over the years, we have been privileged to support numerous organizations including the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and various senior-citizen activities,” said Julia Smith O’Neal, chapter president. “However, I am particularly proud of our Youth Leadership Institute and Academy of Pearls. We have had the honor of mentoring over 60 young ladies.”

This year’s Fashionetta featured five contestants vying for the title of “Miss Fashionetta.” Kamayiah Moore of Omega Group was crowned Miss Fashionetta 2024. The runners-up were:
1st runner-up: Ansleigh Kadynn Walker of Rho Group
2nd runner-up: Airyanna Nicole Centris White of Kappa Group
3rd runner-up: Christin Simpson of Iota Group
4th runner-up: Makenley Paige Wiggins of Alpha Group

The event also showcased designs from PINK LUCY by Tiffany Walker, a celebrity designer/stylist, who presented “The Edge of Glam,” a collection of cutting-edge, glamorous fashion. Walker expressed gratitude to her hometown and the Iota Rho Omega Chapter for the opportunity to feature her work.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Jeremy Brown (JBrown), a versatile violinist blending electric and acoustic hip-hop, pop, jazz, soul, and gospel genres.

O’Neal praised the efforts of the Fashionetta committee, saying, “Their dedication and hard work have made this event possible.”
Fashionetta is a cornerstone event for the Iota Rho Omega Chapter, supporting causes such as the American Heart Association, the American Sickle Cell Anemia Association, Susan G. Komen, the Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry, and more. The chapter’s mission remains focused on advancing “Service to All Mankind.”
