LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier announced Tuesday he is returning to LSU next season. The redshirt junior made the announcement on social media.
Nussmeier completed 313-of-491 passes for 3,739 yards and 26 touchdowns with 11 interceptions during the regular season.
He led the Tigers to an 8-4 record. LSU will play Baylor in the Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston at 2:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Nussmeier, a native of Lake Charles, is in his fourth season at LSU.
He played in four games as a true freshman and was granted a redshirt. He spent the next two seasons backing up Jayden Daniels, who won the Heisman Trophy following the 2023 season.
With Daniels opting out for the NFL Draft, Nussmeier made his first start in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Jan. 1, 2024z He was named MVP as the Tigers defeated Wisconsin 35-31.
His father Doug played quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
During his announcement, Nussmeier quoted Scripture. He said all he ever wanted to do as a kid was play in the NFL before ultimately announcing his return.
