The death is a result of a dispute
A Department of Corrections (DOC) inmate has been booked with this morning’s murder of a fellow DOC inmate at Southern Correctional Center in Tallulah, Louisiana. Madison Parish Sheriff’s detectives booked today 33-year-old Austin Dean with the Second Degree murder of 31-year-old Teldric Boyd.
At approximately 3:25 a.m. Monday, Dean allegedly stabbed Boyd in the neck with a shank. Southern Correctional Center correctional officers immediately responded and provided first aid. An ambulance transported Boyd to a local hospital where he died at 5 a.m.
Madison Parish Sheriff’s Detectives say Dean admitted to stabbing Boyd as a result of a disagreement the pair had Sunday night.
Boyd was serving 14-years for various convictions including racketeering, aggravated battery, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and various drug convictions, all out of Rapides Parish.
Dean was serving a 25-year sentence for manslaughter and a five-year sentence for aggravated assault on a peace officer, served concurrently. Both crimes occurred on February 10, 2013, in Rapides Parish.
As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.
