Senator Hodges and legislators urge NFL to promote family-friendly halftime show

by Minden Press-Herald

Senator Valarie Hodges joined 16 Louisiana legislators and 15 organizations in writing to the Chairs of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and Louisiana Stadium Expo District regarding Super Bowl halftime shows. Gov. Jeff Landry, Attorney General Liz Murrill and John J. Cicero, executive director of the New Orleans Super Host Committee. Inc., also received the letter, which urges the NFL to ensure Super Bowl halftime shows reflect family-friendly values.

“The Super Bowl is a family tradition, and since Louisiana allocated state funds this year, its events should reflect wholesome values,” said Senator Hodges. The letter states “While certainly a large amount of support exists among many Louisianians who are excited about the Super Bowl coming back to New Orleans, many are also hardworking taxpayers with children who have serious concerns about the fact that past Super Bowl halftime performances have been less than family-friendly.”

The letter emphasizes recent legislation trends in Louisiana focused at protecting the innocence of children and promoting family friendly values. It further calls for wholesome halftime shows that all Louisianians can watch and enjoy without fear of inappropriate imagery and content.

Senator Hodges hopes that Louisiana can set an example for future hosting states of the Super Bowl in advocating for entertainment suitable for viewers of all ages without needing a content warning.
